Two schools of thought

There are two schools of thought when it comes to teaching kiteboarding.
1. Power them up and let them get drag around until they understand kite power.
2. Use 3 meter kite lines to help new rider Warm up to Wind Strength, Wind Direction, Ride Area, Entries and Exits. These shorter lines help new riders get comfortable with the true discipline in Kiteboarding which is to Park the Kite and Edge. In the process new riders learn to Navigate.

Kite courses, Big Wave Riding

Kiteboarding courses
Kiteboarding courses
I am going to be painfully honest, there are Kiteboarders (85%)  Wave Riders, (10%) Big Wave Riders (4.9 %) and Huge Wave Riders (.01%)
Huge Wave Riders like Niccolo Porcella are "Native Watermen"...they didn´t come from other sports like Baseball or Foosbal, they grew up in the Ocean . They are prepared and trained, they know what they are getting into.  Huge wave riding should be left to Native Watermen. With that said a percentage of Kiters ride Big Waves. When riding big waves you have to avoid the Mummy Wrap!
The Mummy Wrap happens when kiters drop their kites in big surf. Here is a general break down:
1. The rider crashes first, the wave propels him toward the kite.
2. The kite crashes and the lines slack.
3. The rider gets tumbled and turned by the wave.
4. The lines wrap around the rider
5. The Wave hits the kite and tensions the lines...Mummy Wrap.

Best way to avoid the Mummy Wrap is don´t drop the kite! If you do drop the kite in the surf, make sure
you avoid the lines by diving through the power of the wave. If you get caught in the lines you need to cut your way out with a kite knife or yank on the line which has the most tension in hopes of flagging the kite.

How to rig and Launch on a crowed Kite Beach.

How to rig and Launch on a crowed Kite Beach.
How to rig and Launch on a crowed Kite Beach.
Hey, most kite beaches are public and you can rig and launch which ever way you choose. A cross wind set up and launch can be done in 25 meters.
1. Lay the lines out cross Wind
2. Lay the kite on top of the lines
3. Connect the Control lines to the outside trailing edge of the kite
4. Keep the center lines under the kite connect them
5. Double check no lines are over the Control Lines and Launch
Again, most beaches are big and public so riders lay their lines down wind of the kite, they connect then walk cross wind...this method takes up about hundreds of meters. If you looking for the most efficient way to rig and launch, use the Cross Wind Set Up and Launch.
